How to Connect Apps to Gemini: Setup Guide & Fixes

About: Gemini

connect apps to gemini

Quick Answer

Sign in to Gemini, open Settings → Connected Apps (sometimes under Personal Intelligence), select an available app and follow the connection steps. If it is missing or fails to connect, check the app’s eligibility, Keep Activity setting and any Workspace administrator restrictions.

Want Gemini to help with your email, calendar or other apps? Connecting an app is only the first step: you also need the right account, a supported action and a clear request. This guide explains how to connect apps to Gemini and how to narrow down common connection problems.

Checked against Google’s documentation on September 28, 2026. This is a documentation-based guide; menus and availability may change as features roll out.

How to connect apps to Gemini

On a computer, sign in at gemini.google.com. Open Settings → Connected Apps. If it is not listed, look under Personal Intelligence → Connected Apps. Select an available app, turn it on and complete the on-screen connection steps.

On iPhone or iPad, open the Gemini app, then use Menu → profile picture → Connected Apps; Personal Intelligence may be an intermediate menu. In a mobile browser, look under Menu and Settings. You can also type @ in a chat, select an available app and follow the connection prompt. Google’s Connected Apps guide provides platform-specific instructions.

Start with a small, reversible task. For example, ask for a summary before requesting an edit. That makes it easier to check whether Gemini is using the account and information you intended.

Which apps can you connect?

The list in your account is more useful than a universal list copied from a launch announcement. Google’s availability table separates requirements by account type, age, country, language, subscription, platform and mode. An integration available in Gemini chat may have different support in Gemini Live or Spark.

Google Workspace connects supported services such as Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Keep and Tasks. Phone and Messages integrations are Android-specific. Check the individual app’s requirements before assuming the same feature will appear on desktop or iPhone.

What changed in September 2026?

Google’s September 23 announcement introduced another wave of connections. Productivity examples include Airtable, Linear, monday.com, PandaDoc, Wispr AI and Zoho. Creative services include Adobe, Picsart, Squarespace and Webflow, while lifestyle examples include Peloton and SeatGeek.

Google described this as a rollout. The announcement is therefore a reason to check your account, not proof that every named service is already available to every reader. Before planning a workflow around one of these apps, find its entry in your own Connected Apps list.

Connected Apps missing or not working? Check these first

1. Check the menu and activity setting

Look inside Personal Intelligence if the Connected Apps menu is missing. Google says turning Keep Activity off prevents Connected Apps on the web, iOS and smartwatches; Android retains certain device and communication integrations. Review the activity choice before changing it. To disconnect an app, return to Connected Apps and switch that app off.

2. Check eligibility before troubleshooting your browser

Compare the app’s requirements with your account, region and device. Also check whether it supports the mode you are using. A missing integration can be an availability issue rather than a broken installation. Do not purchase a plan just because an app is absent: first confirm that the plan is actually a requirement for that specific integration.

3. For Gmail or Drive, check Workspace settings

Google’s Workspace connection guide says Smart features in other Google products must be enabled in Gmail settings. If you choose to enable them, reload Gemini and try connecting again. In a new conversation, explicitly name the service or content you want Gemini to use, such as Gmail or a document in Drive.

Also check the requested operation. Google’s current guide lists limitations including counting Gmail or Drive items, moving Drive content between folders, and accessing images or comments in Gmail or Docs. A refusal to do an unsupported task does not necessarily mean the connection failed.

4. Using a work or school account? Ask your administrator

Managed accounts follow different rules from personal accounts. Google’s work and school account guide requires an eligible Workspace edition and administrator-controlled activity settings. Your administrator may need to enable app access. Personal-account instructions alone will not resolve an organization restriction.

When reporting the problem, include the app name, the task you tried, whether you used web or mobile, and the exact error. This gives your administrator a much clearer starting point than “Gemini is not working.” Avoid including private message contents unless your support process requires them.

Three simple prompts to try

These are suggested prompts, not claims of hands-on testing. Use them only with services available to your account:

  • Email: “Find the latest email from [sender] about [topic] and summarize its deadline. Do not send a reply.”
  • Calendar: “Show my meetings tomorrow and flag any overlaps.”
  • Documents: “Find the document called [title] in Drive and summarize the next steps. Include the document link.”

Use a recognizable title, person or date rather than asking for “that file.” After the first response, inspect the source and check important details. If the answer concerns the wrong document, correct the reference before asking Gemini to continue.

What happens to your data?

A connection can give Gemini access to information in another service. Read the permissions for the specific app and decide whether the requested access fits your task. Third-party services handle shared data under their own policies.

Google’s Gemini Apps Privacy Hub explains that disconnecting an app does not erase past Gemini activity. Deleting Gemini activity also does not automatically remove data already received by another service. Connection controls and data-deletion controls serve different purposes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a paid plan to connect apps to Gemini?

There is no single requirement covering every app. Check the subscription and account requirements for the specific integration in Google’s availability table before upgrading.

Does disconnecting an app delete my old chats?

No. Disconnecting an app and deleting Gemini activity are separate controls. Information already shared with another service is also subject to that service’s retention rules.

Why can Gemini find an email but not complete my requested action?

Access to a service does not mean every operation is supported. Check the integration’s documented limitations, then try one supported request at a time. For example, Google’s Workspace guide lists counting Gmail items as unsupported.

Can I use the same instructions with a school account?

School and work accounts have additional organization rules. Your Workspace edition and administrator settings determine access, so contact your administrator if the connection is blocked.
